Introduction:
Hi friends, this is Ting from @positivethoughts.ca on Instagram, here to show you
how to creatively use washi tape! This will be a three-part series where we will
explore different ideas and have some fun with our washi tape collection!
If you are like me, I love washi tapes! I have a huge collection myself of over 100
different designs and I love every single one of them. There are so many different
and creative ways you can use your washi tapes and I’m very excited to share some
of my ideas with you!
Today, I will show you step-by-step on how to do a fun and creative plants washi tape swatch.
Step 1: Sketch out plants with blank planters. You can think about how many washi tapes you want to swatch and draw out the same number of plants accordingly.
Step 2: Tape on the washi tapes to cover the planters, you don’t need to have too much excess on the edges because we will be cutting and discarding it.
Step 3: Use an exacto knife to cut the washi tapes by following your sketch. Make sure you cut hard enough so that it cuts through the washi tapes but light enough it doesn’t go through the paper that is underneath. Then you can peel away the excess washi tape and throw it away.
Step 4: Once you cut out all of the planters, it is time to add some details with a fineliner. For the details, I like to draw in the plants and also outline the planters. Adding some drop shadow or color to the drawing also makes it look extra beautiful.
Step 5: I added blocks under the planters to make it seem like it is sitting on a shelf. In addition, I added a title to my washi tape spread that matches my cactus/plants theme for this washi tape swatch spread.
Step 6: Erase all the pencil sketches and the washi tape swatch spread is all complete!
Stay tuned for part 2 and 3 of this series where we will explore how to use washi tapes in bullet journals and how to use washi tapes in everyday life. See you all soon! In the meantime, please follow me on Instagram (@positivethoughts.ca) for more inspirations!
